Carolyn McMillan, PhD, CPsychol, AFBPsS

Dr Carolyn McMillan is a consultant to AHP Research. She is a Chartered Health Psychologist, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.

Experience

Carolyn has several years' experience working in the field of patient reported outcomes (PROs). Her research interests include the design, development and validation of psychological measures of quality of life, patients' satisfaction with treatment, and patients' ratings of their symptoms. She is highly experienced in the day-to-day management of research projects, including quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis and interpretation, and also literature reviews. She has worked on the following studies:

  • Design, development and validation of a new measure of quality of life in hypopituitarism;
  • Development and validation of questionnaires to measure quality of life, symptoms and treatment satisfaction in hypothyroidism;
  • Development and psychometric evaluation of a new measure of quality of life in older men with age-related hormone deficiency;
  • Psychometric evaluation of a new measure of quality of life for teenagers with diabetes.
  • Design of a questionnaire to measure symptoms in chronic end-stage renal disease.

More recently, her work with AHP Research has included projects on positive mental health commissioned by NHS Health Scotland.
